Middle distance runner Marina Muncan hails from the Eastern Block. This Pancevo, Serbia native attended Chemistry and Sciences High School. Tough as they come, Muncan got her start training on a dirt track near her home. Studying English and racing the only way she knew how —to win— Muncan caught the attention of the famed Villanova Track and Field program with a 1500m personal best of 4:19 out of high school and much success on the national and World stages.

Coming to a foreign country with no personal connections or extensive knowledge of the language, the smart and hardworking the Serbian quickly adapted. By the end of her freshman year, Muncan had whittled nearly 8 seconds off her 1500m personal best and was making her mark on the conference and national levels. A “championship” racer, she always delivered her biggest performances in the final races of the season. An eight-time All-American and ten-time Big East Champion, Muncan had established herself as one of the best runners in Villanova history. Her highest NCAA finish included a runner-up in the 2006 Outdoor 1500m by the narrowest of margins. Her finest moment in her collegiate career came her senior year at the Penn Relays. She received the baton neck-and-neck with Stanford anchor and All-American Arianna Lambie. Gutting out a quick pace lap after lap, Muncan delivered a searing, untouchable kick in the last 150m to seal the victory for the DMR relay, the 9th title in school history. Shortly after graduation, Muncan was picked up by Team New Balance. The next few years saw her personal bests come down to 4:08.02 in the 1500m, a national record, and 2:02.86 in the 800m. She represented Team Serbia at the 2007 and 2009 World Championships and also the 2007 and 2009 European Indoor Championships. Muncan looks to lower her national records and use her searing kick on the international scene as she continues to compete for top honors at future
