Jenny Barringer Simpson wins the World 1500 Meter Championships at the Daegu 2011 World Track Championships in a time of 4:05.40. Jenny Simpson becomes the first US woman to win World Championship gold in the 1500 since 1983 when Mary Decker Slaney won in Helsinki, Finland. This was the first year of four that Jenny ran an event other than the steeplechase. In winning the 1500 meters in Daegu she has answered a lot of people's questions as to why she stopped running the steeplechase this year, an event she finished 5th in back in 2009.
