The sub 4 mile attempt was a success as 4 men broke 4 minutes and two more were at 4:00. The race was won by Lee Emmanuel of New Mexico. Andy Bayer ran 3:58 and became the first IU athlete to break 4 minutes in an IU uniform at Gladstein.
